FRP Piping Systems
  • CONSTRUCTION: CorTech fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) piping and other laminates are manufactured using polyester and vinylester resins with various types of glass fiber reinforcements and synthetic surface veil materials. All piping is fabricated by the contact molding process in accordance with the National Bureau of Standards Voluntary Product Standard PS-15-69. This type of construction maintains the highest corrosion resistance of any FRP laminate.
  • CHEMICAL RESISTANCE: CorTech piping systems are fabricated from a large selection of premium grade resins supplied by the leading manufacturers of these products. Proper resin system selection will provide service for corrosive material handling at temperatures up to 250° F. Resin systems are also available for piping to meet FDA regulations.
  • MAINTENANCE: FRP piping systems are virtually maintenance free as they do not corrode. There is seldom ever a need for exterior painting or other surface treatment. FRP piping is normally made without addition of any pigmentation and will appear in the natural amber/tan coloration, however, if desired, piping may be pigmented for identification purposes or aesthetics.
  • WEIGHT FACTORS: CorTech FRP piping systems are lightweight, which facilitates easy handling and installation. Most pipe is available in 10 and 20 foot standard lengths.
  • OPERATING PRESSURE: CorTech pipe and fittings are made to meet pressure requirements up to 150 PSI with 10:1 safety factor and are suitable for use up to 180° F (82.2° C) at the designated ratings.
  • VACUUM SERVICE: Pipe and fittings, in sizes 2" through 18" having an internal pressure of 125 PSI are suitable for full vacuum service. Flanges require a 25 PSI rating for use at full vacuum.
  • FLANGE JOINTS: Pipe systems connected by full face flanges require full face gaskets of medium durometer (40-70) and should be made of materials having a suitable chemical resistance.
  • BUTT AND STRAP JOINTS: The most common method of joining pipe and fittings is the butt and strap welding technique, which provides economy, requires less space and strong leakproof joints. Butt and strap welding instructions are available upon request.
  • THERMAL EXPANSION: Since the expansion rate of FRP pipe is several times that of steel, consideration must be given to accommodate overall linear expansion.

FRP Duct Systems
  • CONSTRUCTION: CorTech FRP systems are manufactured of the same materials and construction methods as that of CorTech FRP Pipe.
  • CHEMICAL RESISTANCE: CorTech FRP Duct is always made of premium grade resins selected for the particular application of the fumes, vapors and other oxidizing environments involved. Corrosion use is feasible for continuous operation in the range of 350° F and intermittent service at much higher temperatures.
  • FIRE RETARDANCE: Most resins used in duct fabrication are basically fire retardant without sacrificing corrosion resistant properties and may take on increased resistance to fire with the addition of antimony trioxide. Flame spread ratings down to 15 are achievable with the proper selection of materials. (Ref. ASTM E84).
  • JOINING METHODS: FRP Duct is generally assembled and installed using the butt and strap method or with flanged joints, particularly where the system may require periodic dismantling for inspection and cleaning. Flanged duct pieces are supplied undrilled unless specified otherwise.
  • PIGMENTATION: CorTech FRP Duct is normally made without pigment additions and appears as a translucent amber/tan material unless antimony trioxide is added to the resin which will change the appearance to an opaque milky tan. Duct may be colored by the addition of pigmentation and an ultraviolet inhibitor to maintain its permanence.
  • SQUARE DUCT: Square or rectangular ducting is available on special order. Use of this type of duct is not recommended unless the application is for an installation where space limitation precludes the use of the more economical and efficient round duct.
  • PRE-ASSEMBLE FABRICATION: In addition to supplying standard CorTech Duct components, complete shop fabricated ventilation systems are available custom made and assembled with a minimum number of flanges or filed joints for customer installation at the operation site.
CorTech also manufacturers all associated fittings and accessories for the above items. Additionally, CorTech is also a manufacturer of tanks, scrubbers, process vessels, stacks, weirs and miscellaneous custom fabricated items. CorTech can provide field installation and repair services for fiberglass equipment. Please contact us for any custom requirements that you may have.
